SSN:
*Since December 31, 2004, the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004 requires reporting of charitable contributions of motor vehicles, boats and airplanes. For donations that have a claimed value of more than $500, form 1098-C is required from the donor. As the recipient of this donation, we are required to report to the IRS the same information that would appear on this form, including the donor's taxpayer ID, which in most cases will be a Social Security Number(SSN). In order to comply with this requirement it is therefore necessary that The Salvation Army match the donated vehicle with the donor's Social Security Number.
The Salvation Army respects the privacy of its donors by encrypting social security numbers though the entire process and restricting access to only the persons necessary for reporting purposes.
